Positive Thought or Hard Work

“Be vigilant about your thoughts,” a powerful quote to remember during difficult times. Covid has impacted us all in one way or another. I think each of us has a negative story to tell from the past year. Keeping control of the mind and not letting negative media consume us all is of utmost importance right now.

We’ve all heard many times before that “the spirit of heaven lies within”, “what you think about, you bring about”, “replay your dream movie in your mind and that dream will come true”. As I get older and look back on my life, I’m starting to feel that positive thoughts followed by positive actions, absolutely leads to success. Maintaining a positive mindset leads the way through dark times. Control over thought dictates who wins or loses, who holds it together and who falls apart, and who lives in hell but walks through the time period with strength.

I grew up very poor and now live an upper middle-class life without a college education. Both my husband and I took a few college classes but never earned a degree. We were raised to work hard and success will follow. The two of us busted our asses to get where we are today. Looking back, I do not believe our success boils down to all hard work. We’ve spread a lot of good, helped a lot of people and tried to maintain positivity during awful years.

Since we were teens in a tiny town, my husband and I have tried to have a positive attitude with everything. We treat people well even when they don’t deserve it, and have tried to grow and learn from our own bad decisions. We also try to pull something positive from situations out of our control that beat us down. I swear life is five steps forward and four steps back, but positive mind control and many deep breaths push us through.

On the flip side, I’ve seen people work equally as hard and not hit goals due to mind set. Friends who because they did not achieve their dreams boil my family’s success down to luck. That infuriates me because I know how calculated we have been for two decades. How much thought, prayer and visualization went into many of our financial decisions. We put in the time, hard work and set up positive relationships. When dream moments landed at our feet, all the prep enabled us to receive the situation. Many times, we did miss out on opportunities because of lack of prep or poor decisions. Sometimes we waved opportunity by because we chose our kids over money. After a hell of a lot of patience and making life adjustments, when a new opportunity came along now, we are ready. Is that work, luck, or remaining positive?

Perhaps the words “you are just lucky” is insight as to why people with poor inner dialogue do not hit their goals. The statement explodes negativity and reflects vibration inside their soul. A person cannot be successful projecting that type of energy. Maybe winners in life, even the not nice successful people, have a positive inner dialogue that sets the individual up for success. My husband’s favorite statement is the six P’s, proper, planning, prevents, piss poor performance. Now add positive inner dialogue into that formula and there’s no way to lose. Even if you’re an egomaniac millionaire, if the inner dialogue is positive towards themselves, they can be a hardworking asshole and still achieve great success.

Jealousy never produces good feedback

We recently just had a real estate agent screw us over. The situation took me down mentally for a few months and brought out a side of me that I haven’t seen in a while. This crook continues to sell home after home getting away with being deceitful to clients. When people see him in person or on his flyers, he exudes confidence. The perfectly manicured salt and pepper hair, the expensive suits and pearly white smile shouts confidence. I can only imagine this agents inner dialogue with himself. If the conversation is what I think it is, then no wonder he’s a huge success in the area. The man works hard and thinks quite highly of himself; he has a no fail mentality.

On our end of the situation, after this greedy agent screwed us over, I wanted to sell our dream home we just moved into and start over. We worked for years to get to this moment yet this man reduced me to tears and feeling defeated. He robbed us of the joy and magic that a home owner should have when they move into a house. After a few months we picked ourselves back up and turned his lemons into lemonade. Now I want to thank the guy for the opportunity he left on the table that we did not see initially. My negative reaction to his behavior made me blind to the situation around me.

After a shift in thought the opportunity became quite clear. Down the road when we sell, we will come out on top. Some will call it luck; I call the situation the power of positive thinking. Had we sold after all our bad discoveries on this property, we would have missed a huge window of opportunity. In the end, after all I’ve been through, I believe our attitude dictates who succeeds and who does not. Humans are the creators of personal destinies good or bad. The choice resides within ourselves.
